How the configurator works
1

Choose your frame type

Fixed frame screens are permanently mounted and offer the sharpest image. Ceiling recessed motorised screens retract when not in use. Descending screens drop from a wall or ceiling housing. Floor rising screens emerge from a floor cabinet. All use tab-tensioned material as standard.

2

Tell us about your room lighting

Bright rooms with windows or strong ambient light require Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) materials. Controlled rooms with blinds or dimmable lighting have more flexibility. Dedicated dark cinema rooms can use any material including reference white screens.

3

Select your gain preference

Gain describes how much light a screen reflects relative to a reference white surface. Low gain (0.5–0.8) gives the widest viewing angle with no hot spot — ideal for wide seating arrangements. Mid gain (0.9–1.5) balances brightness and spread. High gain (1.8–3.0) is suited to very bright commercial environments or lower-lumen projectors.

4

Identify your projector type

Ultra short throw (UST) projectors sit 0–50cm from the screen and require specially engineered CLR/ALR surfaces. Short and long throw projectors work with the full range of materials. Rear and dual projection configurations use dedicated translucent materials.

5

Speaker placement

If your speakers sit behind the screen, you need an acoustic transparent material — woven or perforated to allow sound through without audible degradation. If speakers are external (soundbar, floorstanders), standard non-acoustic materials are appropriate and offer higher optical performance.

6

3D requirement

Active 3D uses battery-powered glasses synced to the projector — compatible with all Phoenix Screens materials. Passive 3D uses polarised glasses and requires a high-gain silver surface. Passive 3D is typically used in dedicated cinema or venue environments.

7

Aspect ratio and seating distance

Select 16:9 for TV, sport and gaming content, or 2.35:1 cinemascope for a true cinema format. For a bespoke fit, enter your exact wall dimensions in centimetres. The seating distance slider calculates your optimal screen diagonal using THX reference guidelines and full immersion standards.

8

Reading your results

Your top-matched material is highlighted. The size table shows the material's maximum available size on each frame type, with your selected frame highlighted. Indicative pricing shows standard sizes (available immediately) and custom-made prices for sizes in between. A free pre-sales consultation is included with every order.

Step 1 of 8

1 — Frame type

All Phoenix Screens use tab-tensioned material as standard, ensuring a perfectly flat, wrinkle-free surface regardless of frame type.
